Rev. Anthony J. Mondaine Sr.

First Christian Church of Independence has called Rev. Anthony J. Mondaine Sr. as its minister.

“First Christian Church has so much to offer,” said Mondaine. “Its legacy in this community is alive and well. I am honored to lead such an incredible, historic and God-filled ministry.”

Mondaine preached many Sundays over the past year while the congregation searched for a new minister.

Mondaine, in addition to being a talented preacher, is also a singer/composer and a community leader and has eight years of pastoral experience.

“The Lord is a master strategist,” said Mondaine “Trust His process, where He guides, He provides.”

Mondaine is active in the community currently serving on the Board of Education for the Independence School District and previously on the Jackson County Children’s Service Fund.

Mondaine became the first African-American to hold an elected office in Independence when he won a six-year term on the school board in 2022 and elected board vice president in 2024.

His family includes his wife Lee-Ann and three young children.

First Christian is a very mission-minded congregation with a strong Scouting program, outreach program for high school students with housing issues and also home to an active Alcoholics Anonymous group.

The church also hosts community musical concerts including the holiday and spring concerts of the Music|Arts Institute and is the practice home for the well-known Rezound handbell choir.

First Christian Church was founded in 1835 and is one of the oldest congregations in the region and is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
